The Messenger
Sokrates already noticed that even artists also are not very clever. He pretended to be surprised by this realization since artists produced such marvellous creations. He knew that the wonderful aspect in a work of art does not come from the knowledge of the artist but that it was a message from the gods. Nowadays it would be called a message from the unconscious. The artist is merely the bearer of the message and does not have to know any more about the meaning of his creation than the mailman has to know about the contents of his mail. |
